triangle Simple Mode

Simple / Advanced mode switch

The introduction of this option (available in the Help menu) allows you to select the method by which WinMapper is responding to hotkeys:

A) Advanced Mode (the default) is similar to all old versions of WinMapper. Any hotkey is executed once, not repeatedly, and WinMapper is hooked into Microsoft Windows in order to allow the full flexibility and control.

B) When choosing Simple Mode, WinMapper is no longer hooked into Microsoft Windows, but instead registers the hotkeys with Microsoft Windows, and executes hotkeys upon notification. Windows continously sends hotkey messages as long as you hold down the hotkey combination, so by running WinMapper in simple mode, you can now execute hotkeys continously. And should you encounter any situation where the Advanced mode hook is causing problems, switching to Simple mode should solve the problems. Naturally, without the hook, several of the more advanced features such as disabling the Windows hotkeys and start menus, bookmarks, mousekeys etc, are not available. They are therefore disabled when switching to Simple Mode. You can switch modes on-the-fly, and the current mode is stored as part of a WinMapper profile.
