triangle Getting started

This article is a short tutorial for new users, and introduces you to WinMapper.

You will be guided through the following areas of WinMapper :

The interface and settings
Setting up hotkeys
Using the Select window
Registering

Interface and settings

The first thing you will see when you start WinMapper, is the main window. It contains buttons and menus to access all other windows, as well as your WinMapper settings. Most of the settings are explained elsewhere, but take special notice to the following:

Confirm hotkeys

Getting used to using the hotkeys in WinMapper might take some time, but enabling this setting will allow you to hear when WinMapper has recognized a hotkey you pressed (a sound will be played).

Override menu dblclick to..

As a new user you might want to make sure this is turned off, to allow you to use Microsoft Windows as usual. If enabled, this setting will override the normal procedures when double-clicking in a window's titlebar. Instead of maximizing/restoring the window it will hide/show everything except the titlebar. This can be very useful, but might confuse you at first.

MouseKeys enabled

If you are not used to using your keyboard to control the mouse cursor, it might be a good idea to turn this setting off at first.

Windows key enabled

If enabled, the Microsoft Windows Start Menu will display whenever you press your Microsoft Windows key. This is the standard. However, if you disable the Microsoft Windows key, you may still use it with hotkeys - but the Start Menu will not be shown if you press the key alone. This can be useful if you are running a program that crashes if you press your Microsoft Windows key.

Getting additional help

If you need help on a specific window, setting, function, etc - press F1 when it is selected/displayed. If you cannot find what you are looking for this way, the first thing you should do is make sure the Use Online Help setting is enabled and try again. If you still cannot find what you are looking for, please visit our website at http://www.winmapper.com/ for more information. Ultimately you may contact Spinner Software if you cannot find the information anywhere, as we are always willing to help.

Setting up hotkeys

You may execute any of WinMapper's 75+ functions by right-clicking on the icon in your Microsoft Windows taskbar. However, at some point you will want to set up hotkeys for some of the functions instead.

Each hotkey consists of the following :

A description
Modifier
Key
Function
Any parameters

To add a hotkey, click on the Hotkeys button in the main window. This will display a list of all available hotkeys. Click on the Add button to add a new hotkey.
