triangle Start/Stop Recording Macro

Record keystrokes for later playback.

Macros can be extremely useful if you need to repeat and/or edit text (among other things). Start/Stop Recording Macro toggles between start and stop of a recording - execute it once to begin recording, and once more to stop recording.

When WinMapper is recording a macro, every time you press a key on your keyboard it is recorded - and then repeated when you execute the Play Macro or Repeat Macro functions. Example Consider a text document consisting of 50 lines with the same text : testing 1 2 4 The correct line should have been Testing 1 2 3 and we want to use macros to correct the errors. We need to capitalize the 't' at the beginning of each line, as well as change the '4' in the end to '3'. Standing at the beginning of the text file, we execute the Start/Stop Recording Macro function to start recording our key strokes. We then press the following keys (once) :

DELETE

SHIFT and T

END

BACKSPACE

3

HOME

DOWN (arrow)

Next, we execute the Start/Stop Recording Macro once more, to stop recording. We now have a macro capable of correcting all the lines in the text document. We could then execute the Play Macro function for each line, or - seeing as we want to do it 49 times - we could use the Repeat Macro function instead. Either way, all 50 lines will be correctly easily.
